a poem: there is so much space for me now
Share
there is so much space for me now
with this expansion of the sky, earth, and mountain flowing out around me like ice-cold water around my toes.
and I wonder, is the bird free?
as her wings stretch and whisper with the wind
high, high above the road
while I come home to an empty house,
the hive in the roof a slow, low hum,
letting hot river water into the bath to dissolve what I have found.
does the bee feel there is a place for her in the dripping honey?
who does she think of when she lays down her head in the dark comb cave?
the bees and the birds and I
all moving like stones in the wide-open darkness
there is so much space for me now
